Young Mathematical Prodigies Shine at 17th SMA Abacus National Talent Contest in Kochi

In a stunning showcase of mental agility and mathematical brilliance, the SMA Mental Math Abacus Oral Competition brought together some of the brightest young minds. Aagney Asish Payyapilliparambil of The New Indian School, Bahrain, and Aiswarya Ajith of Kendriya Vidyalaya Rubber Board School, Vadavathoor, Kottayam, emerged as joint 1st position champions. The second position was secured by Anwita Menon of Tawa Intermediate School, Wellington, New Zealand.
In the Senior Category, Anvi Melvin from Rajagiri Amala CMI Public School, Vaikom, claimed the title of Senior Champion, followed by Adhish AS of PPMHS, Karakkonam, Thiruvananthapuram, in second place, and Shikha TS of SDKY Gurukula Vidyalaya, Eroor, Ernakulam, in third place.
In the Junior Category, Aagney Asish Payyapilliparambil clinched the Junior Champion title. Abhinav P Sudheesh from Bhavans School, Elamakkara, Ernakulam, secured second place, while Seetha Lakshmi M of The School of the Good Shepherd, Akkulam, Trivandrum, stood third.
The competition witnessed jaw-dropping performances. During a memory techniques demonstration, Anika Shenoy of Maruthi Vidyalaya, Bangalore, Karnataka, and Srishti Panigatti of ACTS Secondary School, Bangalore, Karnataka, astounded the audience by recalling 20 objects within a minute. Ritvik Krishnan of Sanskara School, Kakkanad, Kerala, and Sourav Srikumar Menon of Prabhath Public School, Udayamperoor, Kerala, showcased their prowess by identifying the exact day of any date spanning 600 years.
Adding to the spectacle, Abhishek R Bhat of Samooham High School, North Paravur, Ernakulam, amazed onlookers by solving arithmetic problems while playing the Mridangam. Dibyanshu Mohanty of Mastermind Global Senior Secondary School, Pune, Maharashtra, and Habin Muhammed of Nazrath Home English Medium School, Thiruvananthapuram, recited complex two-digit and three-digit multiplication tables with ease.
Young prodigies Ayush Krishna VS of Chavara Darshan CMI Public School, Koonammavu, Clive Tom Emmanuel of Little Hearts School, North Paravur and Aadhinadh PS of St. Mary’s High School, Pallippuram displayed extraordinary mathematical talents, captivating everyone present.
Over 3,000 students from SMA centers across India participated in this grand event, transforming it into a vibrant celebration of intelligence, perseverance, and the limitless potential of young minds. The 17th SMA Abacus National Talent Contest stood out not only as a competition but also as a testament to the transformative power of learning and innovation.
The official function was inaugurated by Mr. Justice P.S. Gopinathan, with Mr. Loknath Behera, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Ltd., gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan presided over the function, and Mr. Suresh Babu R.G. delivered the welcome speech.
This landmark event has set a benchmark in cultivating young talent and fostering a spirit of excellence. It left a lasting impression on students, educators, and spectators, underscoring the message that with the right tools and passion, young minds can achieve the seemingly impossible.
